JBS ASSOCIATES-SPONSORED EXPEDITION REACHES AMAZON SOURCE

Ed Stafford & Luke CollyerA world first expedition sponsored by JBS Associates to walk the length of the Amazon, has reached the source of the river. British explorers Ed Stafford and Luke Collyer relayed satellite pictures on 26 April recording the summiting of Nevado Mismi, a glaciated and snow-bound, 5600m high mountain in Southern Peru, where Queberada Carhuasanta, the furthest tributary of the Amazon, springs.

The two British men will now set off on their 4000 mile trek to the mouth of the Amazon in Brazil. JBS Associates announced in January that it had become headline sponsor of the world-first attempt to walk the Amazon, as part of its corporate social responsibility programme which aims to support both UK and global causes. The 18-month Amazon expedition will raise money for six charities, document via remote satellite link the effects of climate change on one of the most threatened eco-systems in the world and collect mosquitoes for a Natural History Museum malarial prevention research project.

“As an international executive search organisation we are conscious of our role in undertaking best practice in global corporate governance and this includes embracing the cultures and issues affecting those countries in which we practise,” says JBS Associates managing director, Jonathan Stokes. JBS Associates already operates within South America and has plans to open an office in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, during 2008.
