JBS ASSOCIATES SPONSOR BRITISH WORLD-FIRST AMAZON EXPEDITION

International search and selection specialists, JBS Associates announced today that it is to become headline sponsor of a world-first attempt to walk the length of the Amazon by two British explorers in a major sponsorship deal.

Ed Stafford and Luke Collyer aim to be the first men ever to walk the 4000 mile length of the Amazon, from the source of the river in Southern Peru to the mouth in Brazil. Starting in April 2008, the trip will take approximately 18 months and will raise money for six nominated charities, document via remote satellite link the effects of climate change on one of the most threatened eco-systems in the world and collect mosquitoes for a Natural History Museum malarial prevention research project.

JBS Associates signed the headline sponsorship deal last month, agreeing to cover all the remaining costs for the expedition. The JBS Associates funds will pay for flights, insurance and food as well as essential kit and equipment needed by the ex-British Army captain and professional outdoor-instructor team. The pair will carry only what fits in their rucksacks, relying on sustainable survival practices to live off the jungle, when they are remote from civilisation.

“We are delighted to be associated with one of the world’s last great exploration and adventure opportunities,” says JBS Associates Managing Director, Jonathan Stokes.

“It’s hard these days to find a ground-breaking expedition like this that has never been attempted before. We were immediately struck by Ed and Luke’s enthusiastic, pioneering attitude and felt that to be associated with such ambition and determination fitted well with our own corporate ethos. The fact that the expedition will raise money for a number of charities was also important to us.”

JBS Associates will be opening an office in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, during the first half of 2008. “The link with the Amazon expedition is a perfect tie-in with the new office launch,” says Stokes. “The new base will form part of our own ambitious plans to double our international office presence during the year.”
